As a sorbent and water filtration agent HRCM exceeds the capabilities
of all known water purification systems. After a single filtration
the opacity decreases by a factor of 25-60 and the amount of
suspended particles drops by a factor of 10-30. The filtration
system consistently removes sulphates, sulphides, fluorides,
chlorides, nitrites, iron, zinc, copper, aluminum, manganese,
lead, arsenic, molybdenum and free chlorine. HRCM can purify
hot water and even steam.
HRCM demonstrates a very important and unique property: after
passing through the layer of HRCM 10-15 cm thick the biochemical
oxygen demand of the water decreases by a factor of 2. This
ability allows HRCM to successfully clean water from natural
sources (rivers, lakes and swamps) and make it drinkable.
HRCM is able to remove microorganisms (bacteria and viruses)
from water during the filtration process. Bacteria and viruses
always attach themselves to tiny particles suspended in the
water. Since HRCM effectively captures even the smallest suspended
particles, the bacteria and viruses are also captured and trapped
in the volume of HRCM. To prevent the reproduction of microorganisms
inside HRCM volume HRCM surface can be coated with nano-size
particles of silver and iodine.
